I am working as a consultant and file joint taxes. I am paying student loans but don’t know what is the minimum you have to make a year to get a tax deduction for it. Any ideas?

Can Student Loan Interest Be Used As A Tax Deduction If The Loans Are In Deferment/forbearance?

A Reader Asks…

I know that student loan interest can be deducted.
My student loans are all either in deferment or forbearance. I’m accruing interest on some of them, but I haven’t actually paid any interest yet. Can I deduct the interest that accrued?
Thanks!

I am doing my taxes by myself for the first time, and I heard somewhere that your state income taxes can be a write off on your federal income tax. Is that true?
