A Reader Asks…

It seems like every time I go I spend more money! I always go in with a list, but I add stuff I inevitably forgot. I feel like I don’t leave with any actual food to make, just snacks and drinks.
Are there cheap staples I should be buying in bulk to save money?

My husband and I (one job, one graduate student, no kids) are trying to save some money and we also end up spending what I consider WAY too much at the supermarket. We have already cut out going to dinner and eating prepared foods. Any suggestions.

I clip coupons, shop at the discount store, and only buy what we need, but meats and paper products and all this other crap adds up, and even though I scrimp and save and try to be the best home economist that I can be, I still feel like I spend too much money. Am I just cheap, or has food gotten really expensive lately? Does anyone have any advice? Does anyone else ever feel guilty just for buying food and other stuff to live off of? I’m at my wit’s end with this!
