Is California Planning To Extend The Years For The Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief Law?

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

A reader asks…

The California mortgage forgiveness debt relief law is effective immediately. It is similar to federal law, but with important differences.
The California law covers qualified debt forgiven in 2007 and 2008, where as the federal law will soon cover debt forgiven thru 2012.

How To Deduct Paying A Previous Years Taxes?

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

A Reader Asks…

I found out in 2007, that I owed the state of CT property taxes from 2003 for my vehicle (yes, CT taxes vehicles as a property tax paid directly to the individual towns). I only lived there for 6 months, thus not knowing about the tax and it was never forwarded to me. Can I claim this as a 2007 property tax deduction, or do I have to refile 2003?
